Fun how a car can be interesting yet boring at the same time.

I was behind a red one of these this morning (no pic because driving). I haven’t seen many model 3s yet, and this was the first dual motor. My first thought was that the rear window starts really high up on the back of the car.

I was driving to a tap room behind our mall and found at least two dozen Model 3s waiting to be bought. There were just as many S and Xs hidden back there two. Crazy to see millions of dollars in Teslas just sitting in a mall parking lot.

My coworker has a 3 and it is exactly that. It’s a cool concept and I am glad it exists, but man, the outside is meh at best and the inside is just empty and dull.

It was quick in traffic though.

Exactly. It’s another example of how I see Tesla - you are buying q uite an interesting powertrain, and getting the body and interior for free. You’re getting what you pay for in that regard - bland exterior design and empty (I like that, I’ll have to use it) interior.

It’s kind of jarring, really.  It makes the dash look huge since there is nothing breaking it up, except for the giant screen.  I also thought it was funny that y coworker was using his iPhone to navigate because the Tesla nav “is not that great.”  The seats were okay with sort of nice leather - my Volvo is interior is much nicer though.

Doesn’t Tesla use google maps which would be more than likely what your coworker is using?

I’ve only personally been in a Model S. All I could think was “this was 90K, huh ”. A leather-lined C-class would feel more upmarket. Not a fan of the screen design either, this is a design ethos for those who think anything apple is cool. I like the idea of the power, and hope they can get more range, but for now, not for me.

I just asked him and he said that the Tesla uses “Tesla Maps” which is similar to Google maps.  He said Google maps is better in DC, which is where we were driving.  Outside of DC he uses the built in navigation.

So what you are saying is that a Tesla is basically an Enzo era Ferrari ;)

Almost more like a Fiat-era model with Tipo switchgear etc.  In my opinion, Tesla interiors don’t match the price point, at least on S an X.

I rode in one S and it seemed alright . There were some details missing for sure. Plus, the leather didn’t scream high end. But I thought it was fine. Not comparable to another 90k car, but I think it can still get way with it because of the expensive electric power train.

That’s how I see it, you buy the powertrain, the rest is a free gift. I think the interior of an S might be at home more in a 40- 50K car (and doesn’t seem to look nicer than a 3).  Doesn’t seem to matter to most.
